Like I said earlier here is the little painted barrier in front of our compound. It says "We arm up so you don't have to" which is kind of silly because everyone here arms up for the most part.

Sitting in my truck again. Le sigh.

Today I was riding with a very tall skinny Airman that is even taller than me, probably 6'5" or so I would guess. And I am 6'2". So of course they give us this tiny little Ford Ranger to drive around in where our knees are in the dashboard and he has to keep his legs bent out to the sides to reach the pedals properly. Then we have to cram our M-16s in between us, plus a couple of binders, then we have our web belts on with ammo pouches and radios, so it gets pretty cramped in there.

As promised, here is the garbage truck I followed around! It's an Iraqi garbage truck! It's made by "Hino", which I of course have never heard of before. It seems very inefficient though. They winch the dumpster up in the air like that then the guy has to kind of pull the trash out into the truck, then smash it and repeat. Takes a pretty long time compared to American garbage trucks that just kind of throw it in the top and move on.

This is the dump, where they sort out recyclables and things that we wouldn't want to burn because of toxic fumes, etc (they burn all the trash here). This little guy found a guitar that someone had thrown away apparently, and was pretending to dance around and play on it. I saw them take it into some building, so I assume he decided to keep it. They always tell us to shred addresses and things from letters that people send us for security reasons, and it's a good idea because these guys actually do go through almost all of the trash and could easily get some good info from it.

This is the burn pit. There isn't a huge fire right now, but usually you can see a huge black pillar of smoke from anywhere on base coming from it. There are literally thousands of birds flocking around it at any given time. I'm surprised they can still fly, they must be fat from being so well fed. Sometimes they all get on the road and when you drive through they all take off and it's fun to watch.

This is another dumping area, mostly for larger metal scrap, etc. It's a very large amount of junk.
